Mission Moon is a for-profit entity based out of Portland Oregon.
Mission Statement
Mission Moon will promote moon related products by providing customers ways to be entertained and create wealth through the development of moon dust as an exchangeable commodity. Mission Moon will also provide methods, systems and products to commercialize the moon without risk of human life.
Execution Framework
With this mission it is clear the most effective method is to send unmanned vehicles to the moon to collect the only viable product, moon dust, that will be gathered within a competitive arena and sold via auction, as collectible artifacts, as a currency and as a commodity on earth.

Origin of Idea
This idea was first generated in 2001 when searching for a unique product to sell combined with the interest in commercializing space. Within a short period of time it was clear that something of value had to be "mined" to generate any hope of getting something that would be marketable on earth. The logical train of thought then also indicated that it would be VERY expensive to do this within a single company, large or small.
In 2001, the "reality" shows were becoming very popular and previously several TV programs on cable showed robots doing battle in a competitive atmosphere. Thus, it became clear that a competition between groups that are on a global scale, where they would only be concerned about building and operating their own robots, might be a feasible cost effective mechanism to reduce risk for this project. This resulted in the need to have a company that would be responsible for delivering the robots to the moon and bring them back. The transport and landing of the robots, to be performed by a single company, would ensure completion and reduce the risk substantially across multiple robot contributors.
Finally, the issue of funding became something that would be problematic. The use of the Internet's viral marketing became of interest as well as ways to auction off products utilizing ebay and amazon. As the idea was mapped out, all of these components listed in the Phased approach, fell into place.
The idea lay dormant until 2008. The idea in 2001 was a bit too far into the future for most people's ability to understand. But now with the advent of Space Tourism occurring in the next 2-3 years through Virgin Airlines, this extreme idea becomes more "acceptable". Finally, the offer from Google to land a rover and provide digital pictures is the one final driver that makes this idea "real".
In short, if Google is offering a $30 million prize for someone to land on the moon through commercial means, why not pool resources and take a group of entrepreneurs to compete for the prize. This reduces the overall burden of a multitude of programs trying to send a vehicle to the moon and land safely to send a data link.
Then again, maybe other groups might still try to make it there, such that this project would be a catalyst for others to compete even more intensely.
We are looking for seed investment money to execute on Phases 0 and 1. We are interested in obtaining $2 Million at this time to be able to set-up Mission Moon to execute on Phase 2.
